2990 Milton Army Cadets

April 14, 2013

The following update was received by e-mail on April 13, 2013 and has been posted to the Blog.

The 2990 has experienced a very successful year and I wish to point out a few of the hi-lites as the training season winds down and we plan for our year end Annual Review.

Despite losing a number of Cadets at the end of our 2011/2012 Training Year who either moved away or aged out we mounted a comprehensive recruiting campaign this past Fall and Winter.  As a result we currently have 36 Cadets on strength and parade an average of 30 Cadets each Thursday evening.

Our Fall 2012 Training Exercise was (for the first time) held at the Milton Fairgrounds and was well received by our Cadets and the community.  Both the Milton Champion and SNAP Milton sent over reporters to view the training and speak with our Cadets.  Their articles can be found at our web site.  Later training and special weekend activities were held which maintained the enthusiasm of our Cadets and Staff.  This was of particular importance as 2013 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Corps in Milton.  As part of special 30th Anniversary Activities the Corps was chosen to take part in a five day Inter-Provincial exchange trip with a Corps located in Quebec.

From February 21 to 25, 2013, 30 Cadets and 4 Staff Members travelled to St. Basile-le-Grande QC to meet with Corps de Cadets 2831 where we experienced an interesting and fun filled historical and cultural adventure.  The Cadets made new friends, enjoyed French Canadian hospitality, visited the sites of old Montreal, rubbed shoulders with Royal Military College Officer Cadets at St. Jean, QC, and took part in training at Garrison St. Jean, the home of the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School.  A once in a lifetime opportunity.  Special thanks go out the Staff at Regional Cadet Support Unit (Central and Eastern), Cadets, Staff, and Volunteers with Corps 2831 (and their sponsor RCL Branch 147) as well the members of the 5th Military Police Regiment who assisted with the tour and training at Garrison St. Jean.

At present the 2990 is preparing for our Spring Exercise (May 3-5 2013), our Annual Review (May 25, 2013) at the Milton Fairgrounds and finally, our special Year End Trip which will take place June 1 & 2, 2013.  On these dates Cadets and Staff will stay at 8 Wing, CFB Trenton and visit historic locals in the Trenton and Kingston area.  A great time is anticipated.

As the year comes to an end we wish to give a further Thank You to our patient volunteers and to RCL Branch 136 as without your help and support we would not be able to offer our otherwise successful program to youth in the Milton area.

A sample photo from our trip is attached for your interest with many more available at our web site.

Army Cadets Update June 1, 2012

June 1, 2012

The following information and photographs were submitted by Steve Semenchuk, Civilian Instructor, 2990 Lorne Scots RC(Army)CC on May 30, 2012. My Milton Legion Blog posts information received from the army, navy or air cadets in the format it is received from the unit.

The 2990 Lorne Scots RCACC conducted it’s 29th Annual Ceremonial Review on May 26, 2012 and I have attached some photos you may wish to post to the Legion Blog.  The 2990 has completed a very successful training year and is looking forward with anticipation to 2012/2013 when the Corps will celebrate it’s 30th Anniversary.  Several special events are planned including an exchange trip to Quebec.

Our 29th Annual Ceremonial Review took place at our LHQ at the MIlton Fair Grounds.  An outdoors camping and recruiting display was set up as was a slide show displaying the various activities the cadets took part in this past year.  The event was well received by the parents and guests.

The photos I have attached include:  WO K. Beaulieu receiving the Commanding Officer’s Award for outstanding performance;  Mr Bob Elliott presenting the Legion Medal of Excellence to MWO M. Garrie;  our RSM, MWO D. Leach-Trudeau receiving the prestigious Lord Strathcona Medal from Capt. S. Tarachandra; a Corps photo;  and Lt. Col. A. Phelps of the Lorne Scots Regiment congratulating our “band”.  MCpl N. Anstey, WO C. Franke and LCpl S. Kapar are the first graduates of our new music program and provided accompanying music for the March On, March Past, and March Off of the Corps.
